Life Cycle Events
Every day is a continuation and a celebration of creation. Every moment and every hour hold beginnings and endings, passages and milestones, comings and goings, recoveries and illnesses, births, and deaths. Judaism distinguishes the significant and ordinary events of every day, week, month, year and lifetime with prayer, ritual, study, and community. Your Temple Ner Tamid Family takes an active role in the life cycle events of our synagogue members.
Rabbi Perlman is available to help guide TNT members throughout a life cycle experience. Rabbi Perlman officiates at and prepares for, proper ceremonies and offers pastoral counseling upon request. Please contact us to let us know how we can help you with your simchas or the sorrows of life.
Bris and Baby Naming
Torah teaches us that we are commanded to circumcise our newborn sons (bris) on the eighth day of their new lives. For information on Mohalim and to help plan this special occasion in your family’s life please contact our office. A baby naming can be done at any age and Rabbi Perlman can help you choose a proper Hebrew name for you or your child. This event usually occurs during our 9:30 AM Saturday Shabbat services, however we can arrange alternate times per request. Families can also sponsor an Oneg or Kiddush Luncheon.
Wedding
Rabbi Perlman can help you prepare for this wonderful, joyous occasion by teaching bride and groom the meaning of the ceremony, from the Ketubah signing to breaking the glass. Rabbi Perlman also provides counsel, offering Jewish wisdom in preparation for a life dedicated to love and companionship. Weddings can be scheduled through the Rabbi or Temple Office.
Funeral
When we are born, we all know that someday, we will all die; however, death is a subject many of us would prefer to avoid. The truth is, we must accept the truth and realize that someday we will have to arrange for the inevitable. Eventually we will suffer the loss of someone we love and the responsibility of making final arrangements will fall to us. Rabbi Perlman is available to guide you through end of life rituals, perform the funeral ceremony, and help you understand and implement meaningful Jewish mourning practices including Shiva and Kaddish.
Pre-planning a funeral makes so much sense. We plan for life events such as weddings and vacations well in advance, but many people do not plan for something that is certain to happen, their funeral. While most people do not want to think about their own morality, the time to pre-plan your funeral is now. The primary advantages of pre-arranging your funeral is to relieve the burden on your loved ones in an already emotional time, and to ensure that your funeral is carried out according to your wishes, eliminating the task of second-guessing what you would have wanted. Taking the time now to arrange your funeral is one less thing your loved ones will need to worry about once you’ve passed. Pre-planning and pre-paying your funeral are one of the most thoughtful gifts that you can give to your family.

Unveiling
The unveiling is the dedication of the headstone at the grave of a loved one. Traditionally this service is conducted around the 11th month or prior to the one-year anniversary. Rabbi Perlman can aid you with this ritual or provide guidance and materials that are needed for the ceremony.
